Celebrating 30 years at heart of Hull’s caravan industry with a bumper order book for 2018

We are thrilled to be celebrating our 30th year in business with a 2018 order book that’s already more than half full after another successful annual event at the Cottingham Parks Lodge and Caravan Show.

Established in 1987 by director Ron Kerr, the family-run business has been at the heart of Hull’s caravan industry for the last three decades - experiencing both good times and bad.

Fortunately, when caravan manufacturers saw industry-wide sales slump during the economic downturn at the end of 2007, we managed to weather the storm and come out the other side stronger for the experience.

Sales are now back to pre-recession levels and the company is again looking strong as we prepare to celebrate our 30th birthday with an event at Garbo’s Bar & Grill in Hull on Friday, November 3.

Director Paul Coombs, who has been with the company since January 1994, said: “The caravan industry has changed massively over the course of the last 30 years, but we’re delighted to still be a big part of it.

“It may be our 30th year in business, but we don’t rest on our laurels. By switching our focus to producing bespoke luxury holiday homes, which are made exactly to our customers’ requirements, we believe we have given ourselves the best chance to continue thriving in the industry for many years to come.

“The large number of orders we took at the recent Cottingham Parks Show is proof that this strategy is proving successful.”

What’s the secret of our success?

Having competed, survived and thrived against the industry’s ‘Big Boys’ for the past 30 years, Paul believes it’s due to the ability to cater for a unique type of customer.

He said: “Caravan dealerships like doing business with us because we do not place a minimum value on the orders we receive. This means they can buy one or two units from us at a time, which obviously helps them with their cash flow. It also allows them to place orders depending on their current demand, not a projected forecast.

“Once we establish a trading relationship with a caravan park or dealership, it tends to flourish and grow. In fact, we are very proud to still be doing business with a lot of the people we did when the company first started back in 1987.

“Hopefully, this is testament to the quality or products we offer and the way we do business with people.”

So, what does the future hold for Arronbrook?

With up to 60 per cent of its products currently sold to customers in Belgium, Holland, Norway and France, the immediate aim is to increase the number of UK sales.

Our policy of trying to source all key components from local independent suppliers means we are well placed to do this. In fact, we now support many other Hull-based businesses – including Summerbridge Doors, Carafax, Halmshaws, Bridgewood Plastics, Bankside Patterson, Bayram Timber, Danby Electrical, Danfast, Bonus Electrical, MKM Leisure, McCollins Glass, Sandridge Blinds and caravan transport firm Neill & Brown – meaning that every holiday home truly is Made in Hull.

Paul added: “All our directors are proud to be from Hull and we wouldn’t be where we are now without the hard work of our loyal staff, who are Hull born and bred.

“We’re delighted that we can continue to support other businesses in this area and we always champion the city as a destination to every customer we deal with, whether they’re from Europe or here in the UK.

“Hull has been at the heart of everything good we’ve done for the past 30 years and there’s no reason why it can’t play a big part in our success for the next 30 years too.”
